Rethinking My Resolutions

I've often intended to show you this little beauty.  Well it is a beauty to me anyway!  This is one of the first purses that I made on my sewing machine and I'm so very proud of it.  It goes everywhere with me as it contains my emergency stock of medicine.  I thought that if I have to carry something ugly like my drugs than I should put into something pretty.
When I first saw this fabric in a shop in Galway, I burst out laughing much to the bewilderment of the shop owner and the embarrassment of my friend.  I laughed because my Dad once had a tie with the exact same pattern on it, except that it was made out of silk and was shiny!  It was out of his 1970's collection and was really, really wide.  Think 'Streets of San Francisco', psychedelic style!

Well, I going to be honest here and tell you that I've fallen flat on my face as far as resolutions are concerned......And it's only the second week in January!   I stopped the ciggies for a total of about four hours and I'm still munching down on biscuits and sweets left over from the Christmas gifts.  Well somebody has to eat them don't they!!  But I have been walking the dog after I drop the kids to school every day and I'm going to bed early every night.
I was out walking in the gorgeous frost this morning and I was thinking about my resolutions.  What would make me very happy is if at the end of every day, I could go to bed saying that I've achieved something with my day.  Whether it's something simple like walking the dog and doing a little baking, working on my craft or visiting my friends.  I know that these sound like such simple little things but for me every little change helps.  Reading a post from Miss Beatrix about SAD really made me think about how these changes are really up to me.  It has been easier for me to sit at home a sleep my tablets off than to force myself to get out and about.  And the less I did, the harder I found it just to do the simple little things.
So now I'm going to make a great big effort to get out of the house and exercise and socialise every day.  This I think is a more suited resolution for me.
Wish me luck......AGAIN,
Rosie xx

PS I promise that I'll keep working on cutting out the ciggies too.  Honest!

  1. I don't think you're alone in your resolutions falling by the wayside already, we've both noticed how much of an effort everything seems at this time of the year! Your new resolution sounds really exciting, lots of luck and thank you for the mention :) x

  3. Good luck - and yes, exercise and fresh air do make such a difference to the outlook.

Have you had your Vitamin D levels checked? (Just a thought.) And it might help a tiny bit to have some full-spectrum light bulbs in some of your light fixtures - they mimic natural daylight and are also great for crafting. :)

    Gorgeous bag!

  4. I know exactly what you mean ... chronic ill health can make leading a healthier life really hard. I too am trying to alter a few things and I'm finding making one small change at a time the easiest way to progress.

I'm envious, I need a psychedelic bag for my meds too ;)
